In 1 Corinthians 13:6, we read that love “does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.” This presents a real challenge for the typical American reader in 2022. Who determines right and wrong? Who determines what is true? Isn’t the truth subjective? What about my truth?

Are you a passionate person, or are you really just a jerk? 🤔 People can find themselves in relationships where they can be seemingly deeply in love and sweeping each other off of their feet one moment and then screaming for all the neighbors to hear and throwing curling irons, blow dryers and tv remotes at each other the next. When asked about their behavior, they will often say something like, “We’re both just really passionate people,” followed up with, “but that’s what we love about each other.” Today, we’re going to analyze that defense and see if it holds up.

For some of us, we keep getting our relationships wrong because our definition of love is wrong, too. This month we’re going to be looking at the definition of love found in 1 Corinthians 13 and compare it with our more modern conceptions. If your definition of love needs an upgrade, stay tuned.
